As someone with quite an extensive makeup collection, over the years I have tried and tested quite a few mascaras.
Here, I share my thoughts and feelings on some of the mascaras currently in my makeup collection, including my favourites that I use all the time!
Tarte Tarteist Mascara
I’ve put this one first on my list, as the Tarteist mascara has been my mascara of choice for around a year now. I find it gives me the perfect lashes for everyday situations, as well as being bold and buildable enough for special events or nights out.
It gives me good length and volume, never clumps or flakes and lasts all day long. I personally seem to get on better with this type of silicone-ended brush than ones with bristles, so I find this mascara really easy to use and can apply it without much stress.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
This is my go-to night out or event mascara, it gives my lashes so much volume and length that people always ask me if I’m wearing false lashes.
For me it lasts well and doesn’t crumble or smudge. The only thing I’ve found is that you have to be quite careful with applying this as it can quickly go overboard with how dramatic your eye look is! It can get a bit clumpy if you’re not careful, and I sometimes find myself having to use a cotton bud to tone it down a bit and remove any clumping.
Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara
Before I started using the Tarteist mascara, this was my go-to for every day and night time looks. I still go back to this one from time to time as I love the effect it gives my lashes. It applies really easily, without any clumping and lasts all day. It feels nourishing on your lashes thanks to the collagen within it.
Inika Long Lash
Inika are a vegan brand and I’ve been using their mascara for a couple of years now. I really like this mascara and it’s one I choose to use most days. It gives me great extra length and I find it really easy to apply. While the brush doesn’t look like much, it works wonders!
The only downside I have to this mascara is the time it takes to dry. I find it stays wet for a little longer than other mascaras I have, which can sometimes cause me problems, like it touching against my eyelid and transferring onto my eyeshadow.
Benefit They’re Real Mascara
I feel like this is a really popular mascara choice, and it’s one that I’ve been using on and off for about six years now. Personally, I find this mascara a bit much for daytime use, but it’s definitely one I’d use for big volume for a night out.
Like the Better Than Sex mascara, I find this one can get a bit clumpy too, and sometimes I find it hard to properly apply it evenly across both my lashes, but I suppose this is the price you have to pay for extreme volume!
Sleek Full Fat Lash Makeup
One of my favourites, the Sleek Full Fat Lash mascara, has an interesting brush, with a bulbous end. This part of the brush is really useful for getting closer to your eyelashes, especially the inner, outer and lower lashes, which can sometimes be a bit hard to get your brush onto.
It really helps to fan out your lashes and build great length and volume.
Eyeko Black Magic
The wand of this mascara is very curved and so gives lashes a very fanned out appearance. I don’t find that this one gives me a great deal of length, but it certainly separates lashes out well and does not cause clumping as a result.
I find the curved shape of the brush to be particularly useful for my lower lashes, and usually use this to create definition and fan out my lower lash line rather than for my main lashes.
Tarte Gifted
As a mini size, I find this mascara a good one for travel as it works well for both day and night looks. The brush makes it a good one for building both length and volume. It doesn’t clump at all for me and it contains Tarte’s Amazonian Clay, which helps to condition your lashes as you wear it.
Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme
Out of my mascara collection, this is probably my least favourite. As a premium brand I expected better things from Estee Lauder than what I get from this mascara. It doesn’t really add that much length or volume, but I do use it as a general day-to-day mascara sometimes, as it doesn’t clump or flake and does fan out my lashes a little.
