On the hunt for an affordable, cruelty-free and amazing-smelling skincare routine to banish oily skin? Lush is 100% the way to go! Although I cannot deny I’m a bit of a Lush fanatic regardless, it is without doubt that their products have saved my skin.
To me, their products shine (metaphorically) as much as my oily skin shined (literally) before I found them. While Lush can sometimes seem pretty pricey for those not particularly interested in skincare, for cruelty-free skincare that actually does the job, many Lush products are reasonable.
Lush offer a wide range of products for all skin types and entering a store unprepared can be a bit overwhelming. Of course, the ever-friendly sales team will be there to give you a hand, but for those a little anxious about such encounters, it can be good to go in with some products in mind, so you can nip in, try them out and embark on your journey to great skin.
Having tried basically everything that Lush has to offer (not kidding), these are my top recommendations for oily skin.
Cleansers
When you have oily skin, picking the right cleanser is super important, and should always be the first step of your skincare routine.
Angels on Bare Skin
Angels on Bare Skin is one of the newest additions to my ever-growing Lush collection, but it sure was one of the best. This is one of those mind-blowing miracle products, where you use it and realise it’s the one you’ve been waiting for.
My skin was so soft and clean after using it, I was terrified I was going to break out in horrible spots because I just couldn’t stop touching my face – SO SMOOTH!
Opening the pot may be a little scary for the uninitiated, but you have to turn a small lump of the goods inside into a smooth paste with a little water in the palm of your hand before getting to work rubbing it into your face.
Made with all-natural ingredients, the ground almonds gently cleanse and exfoliate the skin, while lavender oil provides a calming effect on the skin. Kaolin, a soft clay, works its absorbing powers to banish oiliness, while rose absolute tones and soothes. This is by far my favourite cleanser made by Lush, and probably from any other brand too!
Dark Angels
Another must try for the oily skin inflicted, Dark Angels is a deeply exfoliating cleanser, relying on charcoal to do the dirty work. Charcoal is known by those with oily skin as being a Godsend ingredient and it really gets to work in this scrub.
Another wonder ingredient in this product is avocado oil, which hydrates the skin and nourishes, which is welcomed as charcoal can dry out the skin. While I love what Dark Angels does to my skin, this is one product that I would only use in the shower, as it can make a bit of a mess with all the charcoal.
I usually find that I need to use another cleanser or wipe afterwards to ensure that all of the product is gone from my face, as I find there is usually some black residue left behind.
Ocean Salt
A refreshing and exfoliating cleanser, Ocean Salt brings the power of the sea to your shower. It is quite gritty and might be a bit too intense for those with sensitive skin as the bits of salt really do give you a good scrubbing.
I often experience milia around my cheeks, and find that Ocean Salt has a pretty decent go at smoothing out my skin. I usually reserve my Lush cleansers to face alone, but Ocean Salt is one I use all over my body when I fancy a deeper, exfoliating clean.
Toners
While toners may seem like a skincare step you can easily skip, for those with oily skin it is an essential. Toners remove any remaining traces of excess oil and dirt on the skin, shrinks pores, refreshes the skin and acts as a moisturiser. Basically, everything those with oily skin needs!
Tea Tree Water Toner
My daily go-to toner, Lush’s Tea Tree Water combines the power of tea tree, grapefruit and juniper berry in this refreshing spray.
Tea tree is one of the most magical ingredients in the world (to me, at least), and is incredible for those with oily skin, as it is antibacterial, antifungal and antimicrobial, meaning that spots can be kept at bay.
You can get tea tree sprays a little cheaper in places like Boots, but I find that they are usually a little too strong for my face and cause irritation to my eyes. The Lush Tea Tree Water is gentle, soothing and smoothing and a great refresher on sunny days.
Moisturiser
I struggled for a really long time to find a moisturiser that worked for my skin. I find that a lot of moisturiser just make me look like I’ve been rolling my face in butter for a while, leaving my too shiny and a bit wet looking. Luckily, Lush have moisturisers in mind for those with oily skin.
Enzymion
One of my most-used moisturisers, Enzymion is zesty and refreshing, with an entire lemon worth of citrus-goodness crammed into every pot. Working to banish excess oils while keeping your face well moisturised throughout the day, you’ll have a glowing complexion without the shine.
I’d say, if you have combination skin, out of the two moisturisers mentioned here, Enzymion is best as it is a more nourishing moisturiser.
Vanishing Cream
It really is a magic cream, performing a vanishing act right there in front of your face! Another must try for those with oily skin, Vanishing Cream is super light and sinks into skin very quickly.
You’ll be left with a bright and smooth complexion, but if you’re one for covering up with foundation, Vanishing Cream is light enough to use as a moisturising base for makeup.
Face Masks
While I love a good face mask, especially those from Lush, I never choose their fresh ones because as soon as it goes in the fridge, I seem to forget about it forever and it’s a total waste. Luckily for me, one of their self-preserving face masks is also the best for oily skin.
Mask of Magnaminty
If you know anything about Lush products, you’ve almost certainly heard of this mask. One of their best-selling products, this refreshing mask offers incredibly mattifying results. Packed full of mint, this mask not only has an insane aroma, but also offers a cooling effect to your face as you leave it on.
It’s pretty thick and green when applied, so you’ll be able to practice your best Shrek impression while you wait ten minutes with it on. When your face feels tight and tingly, rub it into your face as you rinse it off to get the most out of the incredible ingredients. You’ll have a wonderfully smooth and oil free complexion.
I hope this will help you all on your quest for oil-free skin! Let me know your favourite Lush product by leaving a comment below!
I absolutely love Lush skincare! Angels on Bare skin is so good! I haven’t actually tried the others. Will definitely have to give them a go! 🙂
